About
Melissa Hillman
FOUNDER & VISUAL ARTIST
Hi, I’m Mel.
Thank you for finding your way here.
Faiga began with something I was searching for myself: art that reflected my Polynesian heritage, but that also felt at home in calm, modern spaces, and didn’t require me commissioning an expensive one-off piece.
Polynesian art is often known for its boldness and colour, however, I wanted to explore a quieter expression of culture: art with presence and meaning, created in soft, considered palettes that can live easily within today's modern homes.
Each Faiga artwork begins as a hand-drawn original in ink and watercolour. Through every piece, I hope to make culturally inspired art feel accessible - something you can bring into your everyday spaces and feel genuinely connected to.
Faiga was my Samoan grandfather. He was a hardworking man who moved from Samoa to New Zealand in search of a better life. Naming the business after him felt like a way to keep his memory alive, while honouring the culture and heritage he passed down to me.
If you ever have a question about an artwork, need help choosing a piece, or simply want to say hello, please reach out. I’d love to hear from you.
Thank you for being here and sharing in Faiga's story.
